The appendix contains the fatty acid profile of fifteen seaweed species from Patagonia.
Sixty nine different fatty acids were detected; most of them at trace levels and/or in specific samples only. Five were branched-chain FA with 11-14 carbon chain length and another three were hydroxylated FA with 16-22 carbon chain length. Thirteen of the detected compounds were identified to their chain length and number of double bonds, but could not be determined the double bonds position. Five of the detected compounds were only identified to their chain length. One compound could not be identified in chain length, number and position of double bonds. One of the hydroxylated FA could not be identified in the OH and double bond position. In all cases, cis or trans isomers were confirmed only if the compounds were present in the standards used. For further analysis, a database with 31 FA was constructed by filtering from the raw database those FA whose proportion exceeded 2% in, at least, one sample. This procedure excluded 65% of the detected compounds from the analysis, but its content only accounted for 2.3% of the total FA.
