Diverse cyanophages infecting brackish <i>Synechococcus</i> strains show specific phage-host dynamics in the Baltic Sea

We report the first isolation and genomic characterization of twelve Synechococcus-infecting cyanophages from the Baltic Sea. These viruses represent a highly diverse assemblage encompassing several species and genera distributed across all three major cyanophage families. Host-range assays revealed broad infectivity across different Synechococcus subclusters, including both marine and brackish strains.
