Remote Sensing Ecological Index (RSEI)

Google Earth Engine script for annual Remote Sensing Ecological Index (RSEI) mapping and ecological-quality assessment in the Coffee Cultural Landscape of Colombia (CCLC) for 2014, 2019, and 2024. The workflow uses Landsat 8/9 Collection 2 Level-2 imagery to generate annual composites, derive the main RSEI indicators (NDVI, WET, LST, and NDBSI), apply robust multitemporal normalization, and compute PCA-based RSEI maps. The script also produces RSEI five-level classification maps, PCA metadata by year, PCA sensitivity analysis for different sample sizes, municipal RSEI statistics, and a municipal RSEI bar chart. The workflow was developed to support the ecological-quality analysis presented in the associated manuscript on urban transformation and heritage landscapes. Important note: the repository contains the main processing script, but some user-defined assets are not included, such as the region of interest (ROI) and the municipality feature collection used for zonal statistics. These assets must be provided by the user to reproduce the workflow fully. This code is shared to support transparency, reproducibility, and reuse in studies of ecological quality, remote sensing, cultural landscapes, and territorial monitoring.
