Chromatium okenii No. sp. strain LaCa T is proposed type strain of the species Chromatium okenii within the family of Chromatiaceae of the Genus Chromatium. Cultures of C. okenii LaCa were isolated from the chemocline of the meromictic Lake Cadagno (Ticino, Switzerland). C. okenii LaCa has been shown to oxidase reduced sulfur and photoautotrophically assimilate carbon. Furthermore, it is has been described to be involved in bioconvection within the water column of lake Cadagno.
