The soil role in ecosystem restoration: the Brazilian Atlantic Forest as a case of study

To counteract the current rapid loss of biodiversity and ecosystem functioning, numerous ecosystem restoration projects are being carried out worldwide. Most activities concentrate on visible ecosystem components, such as the recovery of plants, birds, and other animals. However, the often-overlooked hidden majority of biodiversity belowground and the ecosystem services that it provides deserve attention. Our investigation focused on assessing the impact of Brazilian Atlantic Forest restoration on below-ground microbial diversity, greenhouse gas emissions, and soil chemistry.
