Cinematic Virtual Reality Educational Trial in Medical Education

We conducted a two-arm, parallel-designed randomized educational study to compare the effectiveness of a 360-degree cinematic virtual reality (VR) educational intervention to a standard didactic lecture among osteopathic medical students. First- and second-year medical students from a large osteopathic medical school in the Midwest were invited to participate. Participants completed measures of geriatric knowledge, empathy, self-efficacy, ageism, and medical condition regard before and after the intervention; geriatric clinical reasoning and user engagement were assessed after the intervention.
