Conservation genetic study of endangered tree species Hopea hainanensis on Hainan Island

Hopea hainanensis is an endangered tree species distributed in the lowland rainforests of Hainan Island. This species is rare and near extinction due to overly logging and deforestation. To gain insight into the level and distribution of genetic diversity in H. hainanensis on Hainan Island, we assessed its genome-wide single nucleotide diversity using Restriction-site associated DNA sequencing (RAD-seq). We further analyzed its genetic structure and demographic history using SNP data to shed light on conservation of this species.
