Bass, Borough and the unidentified woman with the broad smile wear campaign buttons with the slogan "Wallace in '48," proclamining their support for Henry Wallace, the Progressive Party candidate for President. The IPP was established in California in 1948 to support Wallace's candidacy. According to Bass' memoris, the IPP needed to obtain 275,970 valid signatures by Feb. 26, 1948 to qualify for the 1948 elections.
