Global Compendium of Aedes japonicus Occurrences, 1950-2025

This dataset presents the first comprehensive, global compendium of georeferenced occurrence records for the invasive mosquito Aedes japonicus, a competent vector for several arboviruses including West Nile, dengue, and chikungunya. The database contains 3,513 validated presence records sourced from peer-reviewed literature (1950-2025) and unpublished entomological surveys. Records are standardized into point and polygon locations, each associated with a year, country, and administrative unit. The data has undergone rigorous technical validation, including spatial accuracy checks and climatic plausibility assessments using Mahalanobis distance analysis. This resource is essential for modeling the species' ecological niche, tracking its invasion history, assessing arboviral transmission risk, and informing global vector surveillance and control strategies under current and future climate scenarios.
