The installation of a tide gauge and a meteorological mast at Cape Roberts

A tide gauge was installed on the fast ice on the eastern side of Cape Roberts and recorded continuously for fifty days (19 November, 1988 to 8 January, 1989) - first continuous tide record from the Antarctic continent in the Ross Sea sector. A further 13 days of record between 24 January and 5 February 1989 (when the ice foot broke out taking the transducer with it) was recorded to give 64 days of tidal record from Cape Roberts with a 14 day gap (9 January to 24 January) lost due to memory storage limits. A meteorological mast was installed on 26 November 1989 measuring wind speed and direction at both 2m and 4m above local ground, temperature at 2m and incoming solar radiation.
