Single-molecule ultrafast spectroscopy has progressed from proofs of concept to a broad analytical platform. This review maps developments from 2000–2024 by coupling bibliometric analyses (co-authorship, bibliographic coupling, co-citation, keyword co-occurrence, burst detection) with technique-level appraisal. Using Web of Science data processed in VOSviewer and CiteSpace, we identify consolidation in the United States, Germany, and China; a pivot toward plasmon-enhanced methods and hybrid nanostructures; and growing application to complex biological and energy-relevant systems. Methodologically, transient-absorption pump–probe, ultrafast SERS/TERS, ultrafast STM/PEEM, and high-rate single-molecule fluorescence emerge as central routes, yet reproducibility, shot-to-shot noise, and reporting standards remain uneven. We synthesize a practical checklist for instrumentation, calibration, and data sharing, and outline opportunities in live-cell tracking and dose-limited X-ray approaches, providing a field-wide roadmap and technique benchmarks.
