In 2024, the northwestern region of Uruguay had the highest prevalence of food insecurity in the country, with approximately 16.6 percent of households reporting moderate or severe food shortages. The capital region, Montevideo and Canelones, had the lowest level of severe food insecurity at roughly 1.7 percent of households.
