In our previous study (Basu et al., 2016), we have observed melanotic tumor containing larvae in the 5th generation of DNMT3L expressing Drosophila. It was observed that there was a gradual and progressive nuclear reprogramming in DNMT3L expressing Drosophila with maximum reprogramming being observed in the 5th generation of DNMT3L expressing Drosophila. In the present study, we wanted to investigate if any correlation exists between small RNA and epigenetic inheritance in DNMT3L transgenic Drosophila, we performed a small RNA-sequencing study to compare the profile of sRNAs especially piRNA in embryos and ovaries of transgenic DNMT3L Drosophila from different generations.
