资源简介:
This report summarizes the findings of an archaeological and historical survey conducted for the Southwest Florida Water Management District to assess the cultural resources on land that will be impacted by the construction of the Lake Thonotosassa By-Pass Canal. Field investigation of this tract, which measured approximately ten square miles, occurred during November, 1976. Both the fieldwork and preparation of this final report were accomplished under the supervision of Dr, J. Raymond Williams, Associate Professor of Anthropology at the University of South Florida.
As a result of the survey of the Lake Thonotosassa ByPass Canal right-of-way in Hillsborough County, thirteen aboriginal sites were located and entered into the Florida Master Site File. Of these thirteen loci of past cultural activity, ten were revealed only as areas of lithic scatter. The remaining three sites may tentatively be described as village areas, based upon the recovery of both lithics and ceramics.
