Ciciban Corpus: 123 Digitised Slovenian Children's Songs

Corpus of 123 Ciciban Songs (Version 1) This release presents the first version of a corpus containing 123 songs published in Ciciban, a Slovenian children’s magazine. The corpus is provided in two formats: MusicXML files, containing the full musical notation, and corresponding JSON files, which include structured metadata and analytical information such as key, time signature, ambitus, duration, melodic contour, rhythm, and basic bibliographic data. The name of each JSON/MusicXML file follows the following structure: PubName_PubYear_PubNumber_Composer_Title (for example: Ciciban_7_9_MatijaTomc_Svatovanje.json) The songs are primarily intended for children and were originally published and curated for educational and cultural purposes in post-war Yugoslavia, more specifically in today's Slovenian geographical area (in this collection, from 1946-1990). They typically feature simple melodic structures and lyrics suitable for early musical training, collective singing, and cultural formation. Most of the lyrics are in the Slovenian language. As this is the first release, a few songs may lack crucial information or contain incomplete metadata. The corpus is actively maintained and continuously expanded on the MUSCO platform (http://korpusi.muzikologijaff.si/), and future corrected or enriched versions may also be made available on Zenodo. Researchers, educators, and musicians are encouraged to use the corpus for studies in musicology, computational analysis, education, and cultural history.
