Images from an Archaeological Evaluation at Police Row, Therfield, Hertfordshire 2019

This collection comprises images from an archaeological field evaluation by the Heritage Network on land at Police Row, Therfield, Hertfordshire. The work was undertaken in May 2019 in order to advise the local planning authority regarding the archaeological potential of a proposed development on the site. Nine trial trenches were excavated across the site and a number of boundary features were recorded, suggesting historic sub-divisions into smaller plots, together with one isolated feature that produced the remains of a 12th century shell-tempered bowl or jar, indicating settlement activity in the vicinity. The collected data suggests a low level of archaeological survival on the site, without any clear focus and of limited significance. The site is likely to have been largely used for agriculture since the Saxon period.
