The members of genus Thiomicrospira are chemolithoautotrophic sulfur-oxidizing bacteria. They are ubiquitously found in hydrothermal vent systems. Thiomicrospira sp. S5 was isolated from a deep-sea hydrothermal sulfide of Southwest Indian Ridge. The complete genome sequence of Thiomicrospira sp. S5 enable further studies on the physiology and metabolic potential of this species, especially its roles involving in sulfur and H2 oxidation, which are major energy metabolisms in deep-sea hydrothermal vent environments.
