Air mass trajectories and land cover map reveal cereals and oilseed rape as major local sources of Alternaria spores in the UK.

These data sets contain raw data and processed data that support the study that sought to understand the relative contribution of local sources versus long distance transport to Alternaria spore concentrations, with applicability to Alternaria and other spore sampling sites worldwide. The study found that large areas cultivated with winter barley and oilseed rape contributed to high Alternaria spores loads in Leicester as compared to Worcester with low density of the crops. The raw data were generated directly from the instruments such as Burkard spore samplers, weather instruments, satellite data of land cover for crops, reports from farmers on harvesting.
