Our study is a marker-gene-based investigation of deep sediments of the arctic crater lake El'gygytygn. Sediment cores were drilled during an ICDP expedition. The sediments range to 317m depths which corresponds to a sediment age of 3.6 million years. Geochemical parameters for the cores have been determined. For biological analysis, we applied qPCR and MiSeq 16S rRNA analysis for 57 samples and looked for correlations to geochemical parameters and paleo-climatological conditions.
