In this study, we propose a type of single-phase simplified split-source single-stage DC-to-AC boost inverter topology with the capabilities of providing continuous constant input and output power flow with low input current ripple. These features are crucial for increased efficiency during the inverter’s interface between the PV source and the load, particularly for maximum power point tracking (MPPT) applications. This could also be a useful result for providing steady state DC input, like the DC-DC boost converter topology for satisfying the conditions for online Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) estimation of PV cells for diagnostics. The PV array is a nonlinear device that produces flat and exponential current and voltage curves with maximum power occurring at the curve's mutual knee point. The traditional single-stage DC-to-AC inverters have significant input current ripple and discontinuous or large signal AC oscillation around the input DC point. Interfacing them to the nonlinear power source like the PV array will create significant power losses. Thus, DC-to- AC inverters with continuous constant input current and voltage waveforms are crucial for optimizing the PV operations. Simulation and experimental results validate the superiority of the proposed inverter topology over the conventional types.
