Sources of Australian Academics' Qualifications, 1992

The purpose of the study was to identify and explore some broad contours of qualifications in academia- levels, sources, mobility- and compare these characteristics through time. The study aimed to examine the range of qualifications held by academic staff, as demonstrated by the institution/country of primary degree, and the pattern of mobility between primary and postgraduate degree study. Information was obtained from staff handbooks, calendars, faxes and The Australian Tertiary Handbook Collection On Microfiche on the entire population of Australian academic staff members (lecturer and above). Information collected included the location of first qualification, the level and location of highest qualification, and qualification field. Background variables included academic's institution and sex.
