SEES 2026 Land Cover Archive: Fremont, CA, USA

This is the land cover labeling data for Fremont, CA, the area of interest (AOI) I chose to research as a NASA SEES intern for the Earth System Explorers team. For this 3 km x 3 km area, a 6 x 6 Primary Sampling Unit (PSU) grid was created to collect land cover information at each of those PSU sites. Each PSU was composed of a 10 x 10 grid of 5 m long kernels. In total, this meant that there were 3600 total kernels in my AOI to label individually for the type of land cover found there, using classification types from the Landscape Change Monitoring System (LCMS). This file contains all 3600 labels, land cover classification, location of each kernel (latitude and longitude), as well as other metadata. The data found that my AOI was primarily barren/impervious (LCMS class), or just generally built-up (WorldCover classification). Labels are based on remote sensing data of the same area, and cross-referenced with collected ground-truth data.
