VPRS 12352 Register of Local Approvals of Scaffolding (Records Not Transferred)

The Scaffolding Act 1971 (No.8146) provided for the transfer of the administration of the supervision of scaffolding inspection from the Department of Local Government to the Department of Labour and Industry and the setting up of an Inspectorate to inspect scaffolding within eight municipalities. The eight municipalities were Collingwood, Fitzroy, Hawthorn, Melbourne, Port Melbourne, Richmond, St. Kilda and South Melbourne. (Hawthorn was omitted from the Schedule to the Act.) Inspection of scaffolding in the remaining municipalities was carried out by scaffolding inspectors employed by the Councils concerned.Permits were issued for the erection of scaffolding in the eight municipalities for which the Department was directly responsible. Local approvals were issued for structures generally for one year only. General approvals were issued for as long as the structure continued to be used for various buildings within scheduled areas.The information recorded includes:- date of receipt (of application)- determination (project approved/disapproved and decision date)- applicant (title)- address- type of scaffolding (demolition platform, steel board)- site address- approval number- file number.The earlier volume (1974 to 1981) recorded the payment details also:- amount (paid for each approval applications)- initial, and- receipt number.
