Host-microbe interactions following L. plantarum administration in SIV-infected and uninfected rhesus macaques

We used microarrays to detail the global gene expression changes in the ileum of SIV-infected and uninfected macaques following administration of L. plantarum. A total of 8 rhesus macaques were enrolled in the study, 4 of which were infected intravenously with SIVmac251 for 10 weeks and 4 of which served as SIV-negative controls. At 10-weeks post-infection, all macaques underwent ligated ileal loop surgery to assess the effects following L. plantarum administration compared to control media MRS administration.
