Offshore wind turbine factory simulation as enabler for agile manufacturing

This research paper investigates the development of a factory simulation (FS) model as the digital twin (DT) core for offshore wind turbine (OWT) manufacturing, to enable more agile manufacturing system. The paper presents three experiments that progressively reduced the complexity of the FS model, resulting in a more responsive and flexible simulation. The experiments utilized different approaches, including a mixed approach, a task-per-operator based approach, and a Process Flow Diagram (PFD) based approach. The results demonstrate that as the complexity of the FS model decreases, the effort required to revise the model in response to changes in manufacturing parameters also decreases. This research has important implications for enhancing manufacturing agility through simulation in various industries.
