NRS-16242 | Sample hospital records [Wallsend District Hospital]

These three packets contain samples of medical records in use at Wallsend District Hospital during the thirty-six years prior to its closure in 1991. Represented are individual inpatient and outpatient records, casualty records, a single District Nurse's Report, theatre sisters' reports and count books for swabs, sponges and instruments used in surgery. The selected samples shew how the formats of these records had changed over time. The series was assembled for historical purposes at the time of the Hospital's closure; two of the three packets in which the records are held are marked "Retain for historical records" and "Retain for historical value."
