Composting of residues from poultry and swine livestock industry

Poultry and swine husbandry are among the most relevant industries in Brazil. To give a proper destination to its residues, composting is a feasible treatment that uses microorganisms power of transforming organic matter in nutrient compost for crops. This process may be carried out using a traditional static pile or a roto-accelerator, the last uses an automated equipment that controls environmental conditions avoiding human interference. Here, composting samples of 5 commercial farms were analysed by extracting and sequencing metagenomic DNA using the 16S rRNA biodiversity approach and the whole DNA sequencing by "shotgun", both using the Illumina MiSeq platform. The goal is to characterize samples to explore differences in microbiome structure among different types and sources of composting.
