Nal u Daman (نل و دمن).

Faiḍî’s famous mathnawî, Nal and Daman, a free Persian adaptation of the episode of Nala and Damayantî in the Indian Mahâbhârata, and composed A.H. 1003=A.D. 1594, 1595 (comp. Blochmann, Â’în-i-Akbarî, p. 106, note 4 etc.). Beginning:

اى در تگ و پوى تو زآغاز – عنقاى نظر بلند پرواز

Lithographed, Calcutta, 1831, and Lucknow, A.H. 1263; a part of it is printed in Spiegel’s Chrestomathia Persica, Leipzig, 1846, pp. 131-150. Copies of this mathnawî are also noticed in W. Pertsch, Berlin Cat., p. 905; A. Sprenger, Catal., p. 402; J. Aumer, p. 38; A. F. Mehren, p. 42, etc. This copy is dated the first of Sha’bân, A.H. 1069 (A.D. 1659, April 24); the last pages a little injured.
