The project aim was to understand the controls on arctic soil biodiversity and functioning. The effect of canopy photosynthate delivery disturbance on soil fungal community composition was tested using a girdling experiment in subarctic Sweden (Abisko). Soils were sampled in 2017, 2018 and 2019 from treeline mountain birch forest and stands of tundra willow that were either girdled (connection between leaves and roots cut by disrupting the phloem transport) or control (no treatment).
