We analyzed the distribution of 16S rRNA ribotypes with massively parallel sequencing (pyrosequencing) using a Roche 454/FLX instrument running Titanium chemistry. Bacterial DNA was amplified from the guts of 12 finfish and 3 shark species using universal 16S rRNA primers 27F and 338R-I and II, which were modified with Titanium (Lib-L) adaptors and sample-specific barcodes.
