Platelets (also known as thrombocytes) derived from megakaryocytes are anucleated cell fragments in the blood circulation and significantly function in various biological processes, such as wound healing, inflammation, immunity, the pathogenesis and metastasis of cancers. Recent studies showed that platelets could embark disease associated biomolecules (e.g., RNAs, proteins and metabolites) spilled by dysfunctional cells, presenting diagnosis roles for diseases.
