Grasping the Big Picture: The Data Economy

The work that we do in data services at our individual institutions takes place in a much larger context. We rarely take time to reflect on the bigger picture, which may be risky since the larger context -- which is always changing -- can have a substantial impact locally. This part of the program might also be viewed as a large-scale environmental scan. How does the big picture in 2004 differ from the one we had when beginning DLI training in 1997? This session will present some ways of thinking about the big picture and will examine some of the changes in the big picture that have an impact on our local data services. Our training must reflect the changes in this context to remain relevant.
