DNA methylation and regulation of type 1 diabetes

The goal was to determine the association of glycaemic control on genome-wide DNA methylation profile in blood samples of individuals with type 1 diabetes without clinical manifestation of chronic complications. The participants, aged between 13 and 21 years, with a diabetes duration of at least 5 years, and without clinical manifestation of chronic complications, were grouped according to their mean values of HbA1c over a period of five years, into two groups: HbA1c<7% (N=10) vs. HbA1c>8% (N=10). Differential genome-wide DNA methylation analysis was performed on pooled DNA samples.
