Digital Archive from an Archaeological Evaluation at Southend Airport, Rochford, Essex

This collection consists of images, reports, spreadsheets, site record data and a vector graphic from an archaeological evaluation by Archaeology South-East. Work occurred on land at Southend Airport, Rochford, Essex in April 2017. Archaeological remains identified by the evaluation were relatively sparse and consisted of a small number of ditches and pits dating to the prehistoric period. Evidence of activity continuing beyond the Later Bronze Age was provided by a second ditch containing sherds of Early Iron Age pottery and a pit probably dating to the Middle Iron Age. A number of modern features and service trenches were present. All are likely to have been associated with airfield activity over the last 100 years.
