Circular Bioeconomy Indicator Framework

Wageningen Research developed a circular bioeconomy indicator framework providing a comprehensive overview of all relevant indicators to monitor the circular bioeconomy. Moreover, the comprehensive list of indicators were categorized and linked with the EU Bioeconomy Societal Objectives (SOs) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and targets. The first three columns (A-C) provide the SO number, name and the sub-topic. The following four columns (D-G) provide information on the indicator itself. These are unique ID number, name of the indicator, its unit and short description, respectively. Then follows the linked SDG targets. Here it was seen that for some two SDG targets could be relevant, therefore two columns were included to show these linkages (H-I). In the next two columns (J-K) source of the indicator was provided. This considers the name of the framework, and its reference/link respectively. Additionally, the framework includes matching of the indicators with the 5 circular bioeconomy principles (columns S-W).
