MinION sequencing of D-PAO enrichment reactor microbial community

Lab-scale sequencing batch reactor was inoculated with activated sludge from a full-scale wastewater treatment plant (PUB, Singapore). The reactors were operated at 35 degrees (Celsius) using acetate as the primary carbon source fed under anaerobic conditions, but without the addition of allyl-thiourea (ATU) in order to suppress the growth of ammonia oxidizing bacteria, with the aim of targeting polyphosphate-accumulating organisms that could also reduce nitrogen oxides (nitrite and/or nitrate). For this study, the reactor was sampled on day 296 of operation.
