资源简介:
This volume consists of the calculations for the preliminary estimates for a railway system serving the main commercial and business centre of Sydney and the eastern and wester inner suburbs. The major part of this volume relates to the City Railway although there are sections which cost the Eastern Suburbs and the Western Suburbs Railways. The City Railway consisted of the underground and above ground railway extension providing a loop of infrastructure and railway stations throughout the main business district of the City. The Eastern Suburbs railway was a proposal to develop a railway loop from St James station providing infrastructure to Kings Cross, Paddington and Edgecliff, Randwick, Coogee and Daceyville. The Western Suburbs Railway was an extension commencing at Wynyard forming a loop through the inner western suburbs including Balmain, Rozelle, Annandale and Leichhardt. The first City Railway scheme (and the one that is costed in the greatest detail) is a three track proposal. Each railway proposal commences with a text description of the route, a summary of distances between the stations, and a summary of costs. The estimates identify the cost of each feature of the infrastructure. These include retaining walls, rails and fastenings, switches and crossings, ballast, sleepers, overhead wiring and constructions, bridges, tunnels, railway stations, signals and interlocking. The estimates also include the demolition of existing buildings, and removal and re-erection of infrastructure. The estimates are illustrated by maps, plans, tracings and diagrams. At the rear of the volume is a costing for a two track bifurcated scheme for the City railway described as 'adopted' for which the estimates are calculated as above.A detailed table of contents appears at the front of the volume. The number 3G/182 appears on the front endpapers of this volume. Its significance is unknown. It was possibly a location symbol when the record was active or in storage. Custody History This record series was handed to the Archives Authority of NSW on 11 June 1968 by the Bradfield family. It is apparently an archival estray.
