Microbial community structure of an agricultural soil artificially contaminated with aviation fuel

Nigeria is an oil producing country in West Africa, and the oil wells are located in or near farm-lands. Oil spillage is a big threat to soil fertility therefore, there is a need to assess the effect of oil spills on the environment. The impacts of Aviation fuel pollution on the soil ecosystem and microbial population dynamics of the University of Lagos Biological Garden was monitored for a period of 2 months. The goal of this study was to clarify the impact of petroleum feedstock on microbial community structure in the soil system in question.
