NRS-604 | Minutes of proceedings of the Advisory Committee under the Pure Food Act

Section 6 of the Pure Food Act, 1908, provided for the setting up of an advisory committee under the chairmanship of the President of the Board of Health and including scientific and health experts and representatives of the Chambers of Commerce and Manufacturers. Under s.54 of the Act it was provided that "The board, on the recommendation of the advisory committee, shall make regulations" dealing with standards, packing, manufacture, analysis, labelling etc. These minutes record the proceedings of the Committee from its first meeting on 11 February 1909. There is little record of debate within the Committee or of the arguments put forward by deputation waiting on the Committee, the minutes dealing mainly with the draft regulations (which are written or pasted in the book, according to the stage reached) and their amendment and revision. Correspondence received and the answers resolved on are also recorded. This appears to be the copy of the Minutes retained by the Board of Health.1909-14 (5/5868), 1915-53 (6/4487). 2 vols.
