There is a gap in knowledge on types of bacteria circulating on the dumpsite interface and the associated risks. To know the abundance and diversity of bacteria in municipal dumps in Arusha, Tanzania, we hypothesized that the municipal dumpsites could be the drivers of new pathogens of public health importance. We sampled biomedical, domestic and industrial waste, as well as fresh fecal matter of pigs scavenging on dump and used 16s metagenomics high throughput MiSeq sequencing of v4 region 16S rRNA gene to study the abundance and diversity of bacteria.
