To improve the speed and direction of arrival (DOA) measurement resolution and accuracy using multiple input multiple output (MIMO) frequency modulation continuous wave (FMCW) radar, an novel algorithm based on rotation vector was proposed to expand the observation data dimensions so that higher measurement performance can be achieved. According to the phase relationship between data of each receiving channel at the serial observation time, the original data of MIMO radar can be expressed as a rotating complex vector. The received multi-channel data at the same observation time is spliced for the speed measurement to expand the observation duration, and the data at the sequential observation moments is spliced for the angle measurement to virtually expand the channel number. As a result, the data dimensions are enlarged as well as the Rayleigh resolution of speed and DOA are improved. Experiments were conducted using 77GHz millimeter wave radar. From the results it can be seen that the measurement accuracy and resolution are improved significantly. Therefore, the correctness and effectiveness of the proposed method are verified by the illustrated results.
