This repository contains the associated observational temperature data files and COMSOL Multiphysics® model file(s) (.mph) used in the research article "Subsurface temperature distributions constrain groundwater flow in salar marginal environments." The model simulates 2D groundwater and heat transport in the southern marginal environment of the Salar de Atacama. It accounts for Darcy's Law and heat transfer in porous media. The provided files allow for the re-running and replication of the results presented in the publication. Software Used: COMSOL Multiphysics® version: 4.4 Contents: TemperatureProfiles_Fig6Transect(138_TM6).csv: A .csv containing the borehole temperature profiles presented in Figure 6 of the associated publication. BoreholeTempLocationDatabaseUTM.csv: A .csv containing borehole temperature coordinates, elevations, and 20-meter temperature values. SdA_Diffusive_v1.0.mph: The COMSOL model file replicating diffusive flow, including all meshes and study settings. SdA_Focused_noheaddrop_v1.0.mph: The COMSOL model file replicating focused flow, including all meshes and study settings. SdA_Focused_headdrop_v1.0.mph: The COMSOL model file replicating focused flow with a small drop in head at the transition zone-nucleus boundary, including all meshes and study settings.
