Mosquitoes vector some of the most significant pathogens of humans, including the causitive agents of malaria and dengue fever. Larval mosquitoes develop in aquatic environments and feed on detritus, including a community of microbes. These microbes play an important role in mosquito development. 16S sequence tags from laboratory-reared Aedes aegypti, Anopheles gambiae, and Georgecraigius atropalpus larvae and rearing water, Ae. aegypti non-bloodfed adults, 24h post bloodmeal adults, and eggs.
