Whole genome sequenced methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) isolates tested by the Hologic Panther Fusion MRSA assay

Whole genome sequencing of 45 MRSA isolates included in a comparison of the Hologic Panther Fusion MRSA assay and enrichment culture for the detection of MRSA. In the study, 1091 MRSA screening samples from nose, pharynx and perineum were tested for the presence of MRSA using the Hologic Panther Fusion MRSA assay (HPFM) and enrichment culture. 12 MRSA isolates found by enrichment culture, but not by HPFM, were whole genome sequenced. Furthermore, a diverse collection of 33 MRSA isolates that had been whole genome sequenced prior to the project were also tested by HPFM to test the robustness of the assay.
