Daughters of the Diaspora: An autoethnographic odyssey of identity

My thesis is a tightly focused autoethnographical study of my lived experiences as a cultural hybrid and daughter of a migrant proxy bride from southern Italy. In this under-considered field, I address the wide-ranging issues that Italian proxy brides experienced during migration to Australia post world war two. The complexities of cultural hybridity, gender, cultural transmission and intersectionality are identified as contributing factors in my childhood through to adolescence. Autoethnography framed and contextualised my narratives. My research reminds and acknowledges how transnational migration was the nexus for individuals to think and negotiate their sense of identity and relationship with others.
