Gene database of Thermococcus kodakarensis KOD1

<i>Thermococcus kodakarensis</i> is a thermophilic archaeon whose repertoire of thermostable enzymes have found use in industrial biotechnology applications. Capable of surviving at high temperatures of 80 to 95 ^oC, the archaeon’s growth is also stimulated by elemental sulphur. More importantly, the archaeon is an obligate heterotroph capable of fermenting a variety of organic compounds such as peptides, amino acids, and sugars in the absence of sulphur. This work sought to provide fundamental information about the genetic repertoire of <i>T. kodakarensis </i>KOD1 by parsing its annotated genome sequence downloaded from Genbank. Comprising gene name, gene function, and gene sequence, the database should find use in a variety of fundamental and applied biology workflows such as profiling useful enzymes from the archaeon, as well as cloning candidate genes into other expression hosts.
