Swallowing safety across the lifespan: Reference FEES Data in Healthy Adults

This data set comprises the raw data underlying the report "Swallowing safety across the lifespan: Normative FEES Data in Healthy Adults" which has been converted to Excel format, one row for each participant in the study.

The variables are:

Participant: The participant ID.Sex: The (self-reported) sex of the participant (Male / Female).Age: The age of the participant (in years).NZSS: The score assigned to the participant on the New Zealand Secretion Scale (0-7).MaxPAS: The score assigned to the participant on the Penetration–Aspiration Scale (PAS), comprising the maximum score assigned to the 20 boluses administered in the protocol (1-8).Diagnosed swallowing difficulties: Information on whether the participant had been diagnosed with swallowing difficulties (TRUE/FALSE).Neurological disease: Information on whether the participant had been diagnosed with a neurological disease (TRUE/FALSE).Stroke: Information on prior stroke (TRUE/FALSE).Head and neck cancer: Information on prior or active head and neck cancer (TRUE/FALSE).Brain tumor: Information on prior or active brain tumors (TRUE/FALSE).Impaired mobility/sensation in the mouth/throat: Information on whether the participant reported experiencing an impaired sensation in the mouth or throat (TRUE/FALSE).Snoring: Information on whether the participant reported snoring (TRUE/FALSE).Treatment for snoring: Information on whether the participant received treatment for snoring (TRUE/FALSE).Height: The height of the participant (in centimeters).Weight: The weight of the participant (in kilograms)BMI: The participant's Body Mass Index.BMI type: The BMI of the participant, classified according to the WHO Adult BMI Categories.The 40 columns following these participant-level descriptors provide information on 1) the assigned PAS score, and 2) the number of swallows observed, for each one of the 20 boluses in the swallowing protocol.
