This study, which examines an epigenetic shift in Daphnia ambigua, provides a proof-of-concept for a new form of epigenetic inference that uses a double-digest restriction-site associated DNA sequencing (ddRADseq) framework with a methylation-sensitive restriction enzyme to uncover genome-wide epigenetic patterns. This new method is efficient, inexpensive, and scalable, and we anticipate it will have great utility across the field of genetics.
