NRS-18515 | Miscellaneous Records ("MR") files [Valuer-General's Department]

This series consists of files produced by the Valuer-General's Department with the file number prefix 'MR' (Miscellaneous Records). 'MR' files included correspondence from members of the public, solicitors, companies, trustees and other private organisations. It also included correspondence from the Maritime Services Board and the Railway Estate Agents, in their capacity as owners of land or agent thereof, dealing with the notification in respect of leases and ratable occupations of land under the control of such bodies. Much of this class of correspondence was received and registered in local offices. Most 'MR' registrations over three years old were routinely destroyed. (1)The 'MR' files that have been retained in this series date from 1969 to 1971 and relate to the valuation of property under the Valuation of Land Act. The files contain correspondence regarding the resumption of land, claims for compensation, valuation certificates, maps and plans. The series also includes a file containing correspondence relating to a recommendation of the Royal Commission of Inquiry into Rating, Valuation and Local Government Finance.
