资源简介:
Selection of cattle that are feed efficient is of interest with regard to reducing the large feed input costs associated with beef production systems. The objective of this work was to identify potential genetic variants associated with residual feed intake, a feed efficiency trait in cattle, that following validation could be utilised in genomic selection breeding programs for the selection of cattle with improved feed efficiency. This study used DNA isolated from blood samples collected from steers of two contrasting breeds, namely, Charolais and Holstein-Friesian divergent for residual feed intake and thus, feed efficiency. DNA samples were isolated from blood and following quality control procedures were subjected to whole genome sequencing. Genetic variants were identified and following appropriate validation may be incorporated into genomic selection breeding programs for the selection of feed efficient cattle.
